To support the continued evolution of our platform, we are looking for a Senior Architect to help lead the next generation of engineering at JAGGAER, combining deep PHP platform expertise with AI-enabled development practices across a large, business-critical SaaS application.

As a Senior Architect, you will work across multiple module teams with Product Owners, senior engineers, QA, frontend and backend engineers, and operational partners. Your primary focus will be on defining architecture, accelerating delivery through AI-native engineering practices, and guiding teams through platform modernization, while keeping quality, security, and maintainability at an enterprise standard.
This is a hands-on senior architecture role with strong cross-team influence, strategic responsibility, and clear ownership of how AI-assisted development is introduced and governed in day-to-day engineering.

• Define and evolve architecture for JAGGAER's hosted B2B SaaS platform across multiple modules, services, and integration points.
• Lead complex technical initiatives, designing solutions that support current delivery while creating room for faster, AI-assisted execution in future releases.
• Guide the modernization of a large PHP monolith, using pragmatic architectural patterns, automation, and internal tooling to improve delivery speed and system quality.
• Establish and refine engineering approaches for AI-assisted development that fit our needs, including context engineering, agentic code workflows, and human-in-the-loop review practices.
• Identify, evaluate, and introduce AI tools that improve design, implementation, testing, debugging, and documentation without compromising security, reliability, or maintainability.
• Drive architectural decisions around performance, scalability, data integrity, security, and reliability in a high-availability environment.
• Lead or support critical production incident resolution, using AI and automation where appropriate, while ensuring rigorous engineering judgment and clear accountability.
• Create technical guardrails, review mechanisms, and quality standards for AI-generated or AI-assisted code and design artifacts.
• Act as a sparring partner and mentor to engineers and architects, helping teams adopt effective patterns for modern software development and AI-enabled delivery.
• Translate business goals into technical roadmaps, architectural specifications, and cross-team execution plans that balance innovation with pragmatism.

• Improve collaboration, documentation, and internal developer platforms across a mixture of modern tooling, legacy systems, and evolving AI capabilities.

• 10+ years of professional software development experience, with strong expertise in PHP and backend platform engineering.
• Solid experience working on large, long-lived PHP applications, including monolithic architectures and modernization at scale.
• Strong knowledge of PHP frameworks with ORM support (Symfony), software architecture, integration patterns, and secure software design.
• Great understanding of MySQL, relational database design, APIs, and data-intensive enterprise systems.
• Proven experience defining architecture and technical direction across multiple teams, including technical specifications, reviews, and estimation of complex initiatives.
• Deep practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools and workflows across coding, refactoring, testing, documentation, debugging, and developer productivity.
• Strong understanding of context engineering for software development, including structuring repository context, patterns, and constraints so AI systems can produce reliable outputs.
• Experience with agentic code development, including orchestrating multi-step AI workflows for implementation, analysis, test generation, or modernization, with clear human oversight.
• Ability to define guardrails, validation approaches, and review standards that keep AI-assisted development secure, auditable, and useful in an enterprise environment.
• Track record of making pragmatic trade-offs between speed, innovation, maintainability, platform health, and business priorities.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, international engineering environment and influencing senior technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills and command of English, written and spoken. A degree in software engineering or a related field is a plus.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating LLM or AI capabilities into enterprise products or internal engineering platforms.
• Frontend experience with JavaScript, particularly Backbone.js and/or React.
• Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases, caching technologies such as Memcached, or observability tooling.
• Exposure to large-scale SaaS platforms, high-availability systems, and regulated or security-sensitive engineering environments.
