To support the ongoing development of our platform, we are looking for a Senior PHP Backend Engineer to join one of our module teams, focused on building and enhancing product features within a large, business-critical PHP application.
Your Role at JAGGAER
As a Senior PHP Backend Engineer, you will work closely with Product Owners, frontend engineers, backend engineers, and QA within a dedicated module team. Your primary focus will be designing, implementing, and improving backend functionality, while contributing to the gradual modernization of our platform.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role with significant technical ownership.
• Develop and evolve backend functionality for JAGGAER’s hosted B2B SaaS platform.
• Work as part of a cross-functional module team, collaborating with frontend, backend, QA, and product colleagues.
• Design and implement new product features and extend existing ones in a complex, high-availability environment.
• Take ownership of backend components within a large PHP monolith and contribute to its continuous improvement.
• Solve non-trivial technical challenges related to performance, scalability, data integrity, and maintainability.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-structured PHP code, following best practices and agreed standards.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions, contributing with your experience and perspective.
• Debug incidents, support production issues, and help improve platform stability over time.
• Actively adopt and integrate AI-assisted development tools to improve daily effectiveness and code quality, applying sound engineering judgment to ensure such tools deliver a clear, net positive impact.
• Observe processes and policies to contribute to team-wide improvements, be it via internal tooling or continuous proactive suggestion making.
• Work along a mixture of modern development tooling & processes as well as legacy procedures
• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with strong expertise in PHP.
• Solid experience working on large, long-lived PHP applications, including monolithic architectures.
• Strong knowledge of PHP frameworks with ORM support (Symfony).
• Great understanding of MySQL and relational database design.
• Good knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Experience with Composer and dependency management.
• Familiarity with algorithms, data structures, and efficient programming practices.
• Comfortable working in a collaborative, international engineering environment.
• Strong focus on code quality, readability, and long-term maintainability.
• Good command of English, written and spoken.
• A degree in software engineering or a related field is a plus.
• Proactivity and appetite to handle difficult technical challenges within a cooperative environment
